And Jesus came and said to them, h“All authority iin heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 jGo therefore and kmake disciples of lall nations, jbaptizing them min2 nthe name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them oto observe all that pI have commanded you. And behold, qI am with you always, to rthe end of the age.”
We must have clarity on the Command of the Great Commission.
The command is to make disciples.
The go, baptize and teach inform us how disciples are made.
Glory means weight
We must realize Jesus’ authority in out life.
The authority of Jesue must go from being a concept in our lives to being a reality in our lives.
God as a concept in our lives is something you create.
God as a reality in our lives is authority over us.
We must realize that you cannot make disciples without going.
Making disciples implies going.
We cannot outsource the going part of the Great Commission to other agencies.

SERVE
CENTRAL PASSAGE: Philippians 2:1-11 & Philippians 2: 3-5
So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from flove, any gparticipation in the Spirit, any haffection and sympathy, 2 icomplete my joy by being jof the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from kselfish ambition or lconceit, but in mhumility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you nlook not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 oHave this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,1 6 pwho, though he was in qthe form of God, did not count equality with God ra thing to be grasped, 7 but semptied himself, by taking the form of a tservant,2 ubeing born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by vbecoming obedient to the point of death, weven death on a cross. 9 xTherefore yGod has zhighly exalted him and bestowed on him athe name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus bevery knee should bow, cin heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and devery tongue confess that Jesus Christ iseLord, to the glory of God the Father.
SERVE to be like Jesus.
Serving teaches/reminds us that its isn’t about me/you.
1 Peter 4-8-10
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since qlove covers a multitude of sins. 9 rShow hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 sAs each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, tas good stewards of God's varied grace...
Ephesians 4: 11-12
And mhe gave the napostles, the prophets, the oevangelists, thepshepherds3 and teachers,4 12 qto equip the saints for the work of ministry, for rbuilding up sthe body of Christ….
We belong alongside.
Serving takes scripture memory to a memory of living out scripture!
We serve as a response to God’s love, not a requirement/restitution for God’s love.
Consider:
Who served to invest in you?________________________________
How are you serving to invest in others/the kingdom? ______________________________

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (Hebrews 10:23-25, ESV)
We belong alongside.
God’s design is for us to GROW in Christlikeness through each other.
Being alongside one another involves:
1. Holding on to hope (vs. 23)
2. Considering how (vs. 24
3. Stirring up one another (vs. 24)
4. Love and works (vs. 24)

"Dream On" Genesis 37 These are the generations of Jacob.
Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was ithe son of his old age. And he made him ja robe of many colors. 4 But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.
5 Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. 6 He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed: 7 Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.” 8 His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

The account of Enoch’s life will clue us in on how such a walk can be achieved.” Genesis 5:21-24 Key verse: “When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” |
